Cataract and Glaucoma Testing and Referrals

A cataract is the clouding of the lens in the eye that can affect vision. It is one of the most common causes for decreased vision in adult patients. Fortunately, timely removal of the cataract when necessary is painless and provides most patients with a lasting solution. Visual results following surgery are often excellent, providing patients with an increased quality of life. We try to accomplish this for all of our patients by providing them with timely referrals to the best and most convenient ophthalmologists.

Glaucoma is a progressive condition that causes damage to the eye’s optic nerve and can result in vision loss and blindness. It is the second leading cause of blindness in North America. Glaucoma tends to be heredity and most patient often don’t feel any symptoms. The only way to detect this disease is by having regular eye exams. There are various risk factors associated with the development of Glaucoma that eye doctors check for during an eye exam. Patients with multiple risk factors are often watched more closely or are sent for additional tests that allow monitoring more closely.
